It ISN'T Life after people. It's LIfe after America. This is just jingoism disguised as reputable
Posted by CharlesV | 7/1/2010

Frankly I was disgusted at this series. When will the Americans realise that they aren't the only people on this planet. Who in the rest of the world really gives a crap about what happens in the Nevada Desert after people (aside from what happens in every desert in the world after people). The series is really Life after America or Life after Americans and its Amerocentric nature made me almost puke from its arrogance. Get reality producers and directors of this crap. If you want to sell to an international market at least make an effort to make it internationally relevant. The few references to the effects of life after people in places like Europe were so infrequent as to be only "lip-service". Trash, trash, trash, jingoism, trash, trash, trash and did I mention that it is garbage?

What has this programme got to do witth History? Apart from the obvious bias its also about a theoretical future. This is obviously something mixed and matched from the Discovery channel.

the worst part about the series is that they seem to repeat the same things about different buildings in different cities each week so they are basically repeating themselves even more than the original documentary did. I agree that they focus on the United States for most of it and was surprised to see something in London the other week. Today's epsiode said something about oil refineries and there was either no mention or it was in the first 10 minutes of the show as I got held up and missed the start of the show (I sure do miss history channel +2)

What abput the native races who had litle or no contact whith"white man" The series seems to life after civilized man. Reference was made to the animals but only for the purpose of conparison, the native populations could come under that catagory.

Yes I agree. Its a pity that is focused on the usa but thats to be expected. Things can still be applied here. I would imagine the Auckland Harbour bridge going through a similar process to the Golden Gate Bridge. I've been taping the series and will put it in the collection, for all that.

Americans watch more TV than anyone and this will always affect perspectives, I find this documentary frustrating for other reasons, more concerning perhaps is the American preoccupation with who won WWII.

Well unfortunately you have to see it from a American producer and directors view point. Americans know so little about the world outside their own country that this would be the only way for them to really understand. And also, consider this, if it was a Australian comapny that made the show, most of the shots would be from Sydney, Melbourne maybe even Brisbane. And lastly, the same thing would happen here, so instead of concentrating on the American parts, just see it as any other city in the world.
