Turning Point Cast
The future of young Stalin, Hitler, Kaiser Wilhelm II and Churchill appeared set – then fate brought them to a turning point, sent them down a different path and changed the world forever.
He suffered terrible injuries and accidents as a child. Beaten by his drunk father he grew up in a violent provincial backwater. Yet he was a straight ‘A’ student whose mother dreamed would become a priest – even a bishop. He had a beautiful singing voice and wrote poems that would be recognized as national literary classics.
When did the student, romantic poet and aspiring priest change and be set on the path to become: Josef Stalin
He was born into an aristocratic family and the son of a famous politician. However both his parents neglected him and he was a poor student. His father concluded he wasn’t smart enough to become a lawyer so it was decided he would join the Army. His father’s doubts about his son seemed confirmed when he failed to get elected to Parliament. He appeared to be a young man with nothing more than a famous name. Then chance brought him worldwide attention and he skilfully used media fame to re-launch his political career.
He would become Britain’s wartime leader and saviour: Winston Churchill
He was the grandson of the Queen of the world’s greatest empire. His parents raised him in liberal traditions in the hope that he would be instrumental in bringing lasting peace to Europe. What turned a sensitive young prince away from an expected destiny of enlightened leadership to become the militaristic autocrat who would lead the world into a disastrous war as: Kaiser Wilhelm II
From an early age he believed that he was destined to become a great artist and conquer the art world. His dream was opposed by his violent father – but his mother indulged him.
After his father’s death he left school and pursued a bohemian-style life of painting, writing and reading until he convinced his mother to support his application to the national Art Academy. But he was rejected. Humiliated, the young man slid into failure and destitution, eventually painting postcards for tourists to earn enough money to stay alive.
What turned this aimless, would-be artist into the dictator: Adolf Hitler
